It’s important to understand that there are several different types of cataracts that can affect your vision, especially since cataracts are so common in folks over the age of 75, with over 80% being afflicted. This blog will purpose to explain the differences in each.
This type of cataract can either be inherited (from birth) or developed early in childhood. Most of the time the cause is unknown, but they can occur as part of a birth defect or as part of another disease. These congenital cataracts don’t always affect vision, but if they do they need immediate treatment.
A cortical cataract begins on the outer edges of the lens’ shell layer and causes problems with glare and light scattering at night. This type of cataract interferes with light passing through the center of the lens as it progresses further.
